Erin Brandao (E-RYT 500 )
I took my first yoga class in college in the early 2000’s and all I can remember about it is that I always fell asleep in savasana, the resting post at the end of every class. An workout that ended with a nap sounded pretty good to me! Over the next few years I flirted off and on with yoga until it became an integral part of my life and recovery after the death of my mother. The first time someone suggested I could be a teacher myself, I laughed and said no way. Good thing the Divine has a sense of humor too, because in 2011 I became certified through Namah Shivaya’s teacher training program and now I serve as the lead trainer for our weekday program. What I love most about yoga is its diversity. There is a yoga style, class, or teacher for everyone. I teach active physically challenging classes like ashtanga and all levels flow, relaxing and accessible options like restorative and gentle, as well as a weekly yoga class just for kids! Yoga has given me so many gifts, from physical health to mental peace to spiritual awakening, and I would love to share the gifts of yoga with you as well. Erin Brandao instructs the following:
This class is moderately active with the intention to challenge you a bit more than the gentle class, but still provide enough opportunity for modifications and variations so any practitioner can attend and benefit.
Children learn through play, but unfortunately many are already feeling the effects of a busy, stressed out society. Using songs, stories, and rhymes to maintain interest, this class will incorporate poses for strength, flexibility, balance, and overall health. We will also work on deep breathing, focused attention, cooperation, and relaxation. Most importantly, the kids get to have fun and shine like the stars they are!

How To Yoga: Get to Know the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali
Date: Saturday, November 4th
Time: 2-4 pm
Instructor: Erin Brandao
Yoga has been practiced for thousands of years in various forms. About 2000 years ago a yogi named Patanjali gathered the teachings and recorded the basic principles of yoga in a single guide book called the Yoga Sutra, or yogic thread. In this short text he explores the nature of the human mind and describes how and why yoga helps us maintain calm in the chaos of our lives. This ancient wisdom is even more relevant in our busy modern times. Join Erin Brandao in this workshop to gain an overall understanding of this work and dive deeper into select verses as they apply to your yoga practice or teaching.
This workshop fulfills 2 contact hours with Yoga Alliance in the Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle and Ethics continuing education category.
