Gentle

This class is taught by:

Mary Sue Hayward

I am a yoga teacher who works with students seeking a gentle approach to movement and yoga postures. I discovered yoga in mid-life and understand what it is like to be a beginner. With a Master’s degree in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from SMU, 200-hour and 500-hour registered yoga teacher certifications, and a HeavyWeight Yoga certification, I work with new or returning students, students with physical limitations, overweight students, and even experienced yoga practitioners. My classes focus on making yoga accessible no matter what challenge you experience. I emphasize safe alignment and gentle transitions between poses. In addition to yoga, I’m an enthusiastic walker. You might see me at White Rock Lake walking and doing yoga to support walking fitness. In my career ‘past life’ I was a geologist, a training and development specialist for scientists, and a learning disabilities diagnostician for children.

Erin Brandao (E-RYT 500 )
I took my first yoga class in college in the early 2000’s and all I can remember about it is that I always fell asleep in savasana, the resting post at the end of every class. An workout that ended with a nap sounded pretty good to me! Over the next few years I flirted off and on with yoga until it became an integral part of my life and recovery after the death of my mother. The first time someone suggested I could be a teacher myself, I laughed and said no way. Good thing the Divine has a sense of humor too, because in 2011 I became certified through Namah Shivaya’s teacher training program and now I serve as the lead trainer for our weekday program. What I love most about yoga is its diversity. There is a yoga style, class, or teacher for everyone. I teach active physically challenging classes like ashtanga and all levels flow, relaxing and accessible options like restorative and gentle, as well as a weekly yoga class just for kids! Yoga has given me so many gifts, from physical health to mental peace to spiritual awakening, and I would love to share the gifts of yoga with you as well. Erin Acosta

I am a 500 RYT, Dallas based Yoga teacher that believes compassionate service helps to alleviate the pain of those who are suffering but its greater value lies in purifying the minds & hearts of those who render it. I like to focus on asanas (postures) and pranayama (breath control) specific to each client’s needs to help with the physical and/or mental ailments he or she may be challenging in their day to day lives. I first came to Yoga for the fitness benefits and was hoping that it would help with my ongoing health concerns but then after a few years of practicing, realized that the exercise involved in Yoga was just a nice side effect of the practice. Through asana, pranayama and meditation I have been able to steer my health into another direction and see positive changes in every part of my life since then. Yoga is not just a job for me. It is my hobby, my passion and my practice for life!

Wendy Loven

I started practicing yoga in 2003 in order to help my body recover from a back injury. I soon discovered that yoga was good for so much more than healing back pain, it helped in all areas of my life, from reducing stress to building strength. In 2013, I completed the 200 hour training at Namah Shivaya and in 2015, I completed the 300 hour training. I love introducing new students to the benefits of yoga and showing them the myriad of ways that yoga can be used to improve every aspect of your life!

I teach quarterly mindfulness workshops for beginners, check the "Workshops" section of the website to sign up.
If you have never taken a yoga class or simply prefer to move at your own pace and enjoy the gentle variations of all the postures, then this class is for you.
